To many non-japanese fans, the ‘Godzilland’ (ゴジランド ”Gojirando”) series has been a mystery until now. The only thing fully available was an episode of a live action variety show, with some animated bits of various Toho kaiju in a cute style here and there. It was meant to promote new toys and the release of ‘Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II’ (1993).

But for years there have been clues and rumors of an actual anime series starring the monsters as seen in the show and taking place on Monster Island (here called “Godzilland”, of course). Was it part of the live action show?

Turns out there wasn’t a full series, but two educational OVA episodes released years after the variety show had run its course. The first one came out in 1994, it was about learning the japanese alphabet. The second one came out in 1996, and it was about maths.

And here they are. Someone likely from Japan was kind enough to upload them in some site years ago, so I uploaded them on youtube to make sure they remain on the internet. Enjoy:

Hiragana Episode (1994): [Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3] [Part 4]

Addition Episode (1996): [Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3] [Part 4]

The episode titles for Inuyasha can, at times, be a little spoileriffic.

The above examples are exaggerations, but only a little bit! That’s the weird part.

I love this.
